Ever since the age of 16, when I grabbed a sleeping bag & a guitar & spent two months busking, hitching & sleeping rough in fields & gardens throughout Europe, I've had itchy feet. Two years after that trip - & despite catching ringworm (:)) - I toured Eastern Europe in a battered, tattered 2CV car: my story of that trip was shortlisted for the prestigious Bradt Travel Awards.
Since then I've travelled widely in five continents: I spent four months learning to tango & becoming a gaucho in Argentina; I was a volunteer teacher & worked as a restaurant reviewer for five months in Cambodia; I spent four months travelling - & tying myself in yoga knots - in India & many more months travelling throughout Asia, The Americas & Africa. I've owned (small) homes in Spain & Greece & owned & ran a Chambres d'Hotes in Charente, France - I'm a trained (peasant food) chef & also cooked for the Table d'Hote.
I'm a big fan of slow travel and I've put 300.000kms on the clock of my trusty (slightly rusty) motorcaravan.
I love travel because I am intensely curious about every place that I visit, but mainly because I'm even more curious about the people who live in these destinations.
I'm often asked 'where was your favourite place?' To which I inevitably reply: 'the next place I visit.'
